Enzyme coffee has started a frenzy all over the internet as many claim its effectiveness for weight loss. But before you throw out your current coffee fix for this miracle drink, let’s find out the truth about enzyme coffee for weight loss and figure out if it’s just another scam.

Enzyme coffee for weight loss contains enzymes that are said to help break down fat cells.

What are enzymes?

“Enzymes” refer to a broad term for a protein that speeds up chemical reactions within the body. Digestive enzymes, in particular, assist in the breakdown of food into smaller components that would be easier and faster to absorb by the body.

Our bodies naturally produce these enzymes, but they can also be taken as a supplement.

Many people take digestive enzyme supplements over the counter to treat symptoms such as acid reflux, gas, bloating, and diarrhea.

Digestive enzymes are produced by your stomach, small intestine, and pancreas. The pancreas is the digestive enzyme’s "powerhouse." It is responsible for the production of the most important digestive enzymes, which are those that break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

Digestive enzyme supplements have grown in popularity due to their claims of treating common gut irritation, heartburn, and other ailments.

Various studies also discuss how taking these supplements could promote a healthier gut microbiome. It also leads to the enhancement of beneficial gut bacteria, possibly leading to a reduction of the body mass index, fat mass, and body weight.

No wonder people want this in their coffee!

What is enzyme coffee?

Enzyme coffee is said to contain an enzyme that helps break down fat.

Fat-burning enzyme coffee. Huh. 🤨

Now, these enzymes can actually be found naturally in coffee. So, what’s the big deal?

The thing here is, these enzymes are usually destroyed in the roasting process. Roasting coffee beans will destroy the shape and functionality of coffee enzymes.

Various types of coffee marketed this way never have clear descriptions of the supposed enzymes. More often than not, it’s probably a scam. But nowadays Social media has changed everything and it makes us buy everything that it wants us to buy.

Is enzyme coffee good for weight loss?

Bah! The truth is, this phrase has no meaning. An enzyme is a broad term for a protein that aids in the acceleration of chemical reactions in the body.

Our body contains over 1000 different enzymes that do everything from breaking down food to building muscle. So which one makes this skinny coffee?

For all its worth, enzyme coffee is just powdered coffee that has added chromium and has a crack load of caffeine. Chromium can help regulate glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity.

Some coffees may list other plant ingredients which are not enzymes but even then it doesn’t cause weight loss. It’s just an overpriced instant coffee. 😂

Let’s take a look at the video below 👇

To put it bluntly, the term “enzyme coffee” is vague and sketchy. This is because “enzyme” refers to a broad term for proteins.

Does enzyme coffee work for weight loss?

The truth is, enzyme coffee can work for weight loss. Buuut— it is no better than drinking regular coffee

Coffee in general contains stimulants that act as active ingredients.

Some of these include:

  • Caffeine
  • Theobromine
  • Theophylline

Caffeine, in particular, blocks an inhibitory neurotransmitter called adenosine.

Adenosine enhances the release of dopamine (among other neurotransmitters), which makes you feel more alert and awake. This is probably why you feel like you have more energy to work out. Which leads to weight loss.

It also increases the rate of metabolism by enhancing the burning of fat within the body.

Bottom line, enzyme coffee isn't anything special. Even if they did include some B vitamins, you could achieve the same results. And it would cost you considerably less.💲

I took a peek at a listing for It Works Skinny Brew. It’s pretty expensive if you ask me. Take a look at the negative comments some dissatisfied buyers left behind.

The reviews for these enzyme weight-loss coffees don’t look promising either. These buyers said that the coffee did not help them. ❌

One comment wrote that even though they religiously drank this coffee, they did not lose any weight.

Some buyers are just plain disappointed.

Don’t get fooled by claims of “lipid lowering enzyme coffee.” This is because coffee and its bioactive compounds DOES reduce lipid digestion.

Is there any fat-reducing coffee?

Coffee has the potential to increase your metabolic rate.

The higher your metabolic rate, the easier it is to lose weight and eat more without gaining weight. Caffeine has been shown in studies to increase RMR by 3-11%, with higher doses having a greater effect.

RMR stands for resting metabolic rate

There’s even this “lemon+coffee” trend on TikTok. 🍋☕

The trend first gained popularity as a result of a "coffee and lemon" challenge. The concept is simple: squeeze some lemon into your coffee to help burn fat.

Users who posted this non TikTok claim that as a result, lemon in your coffee could kickstart your weight-loss journey.

What irks me is that most of these weight-loss products low-key targeting people’s confidence. Take this TikTok post for example:

There’s also another TikTok trend the Proffee, protein+coffee. Like other trends on TikTok users swear by its benefits which include weight loss.

Then there’s the probiotic coffee. Researchers created a new fermented coffee beverage containing over 1 billion live bacteria. People on a dairy-free diet may be able to get probiotics from fermented coffee.

However, to avoid unpleasant digestive side effects, experts recommend giving your body time to adjust to new probiotic sources.

There must already be a hundred coffee formulations out there.

But, there’s really no “special” coffee that works better than regular caffeine for weight loss.

FAQ

Enzyme coffee is fake. But before we close the book on enzyme coffee, here are some FAQs I’d like to address.

Is enzyme coffee safe?

If you’ve already bought an expensive pack of enzyme coffee, you don’t really have to throw it away. This glorified powdered coffee is safe to drink!

At the very least, it’s good-tasting coffee! There have been no reports of people having problems after drinking any enzyme coffee.

Are there any enzyme coffee side effects? No.

You just need to make sure that you are being safe by checking the packaging and expiry date. Some people in their desire to get in on the trend would grab any opportunity to get their hands on enzyme coffee even if it’s not from a reputable seller.

Also, you should consume no more than 400 mg of caffeine per day. This is roughly four cups of coffee.

You need to be cautious of high caffeine doses, and be wary of supplements such as chromium. There are some supplements that should also be avoided because they may interact with supplements or medications you are currently taking.

Is enzyme coffee good for weight loss?

The fact that it is coffee is probably the only reason why we can say that it works to help lose weight. A healthy slimming enzyme coffee is usually too expensive when you can get almost the same benefits drinking regular coffee.

The truth behind enzyme coffee for weight loss

Thanks for reading until the end of my post about enzyme coffee. If you are trying to lose weight you are most likely one of the people within the crosshairs of their marketing strategy.

Coffee itself can help you lose weight and there is no reason for you to break the bank. No amount of money you give these companies is going to make you lose weight. Unless you plan to walk from your house to their factory on foot. 🤪
